Introduction

Dragonfish operates as an online gaming company under the larger umbrella of 888 Holdings, focusing on creating cutting-edge gaming software for various external operators. Established in 2007, Dragonfish has designed software for various gaming formats including Bingo, Poker, Casino games, Parlour games, and Sports betting, serving clients globally. While it operates independently from 888, Dragonfish products are available across numerous other online betting platforms such as Foxy Bingo, the World Series of Poker, Moon Bingo, and others.

Table Games

The selection of table games is rather typical, with one intriguing exception: a game named Texas Choose 'Em, which I haven't encountered before. Generally, players can select from tables with low, medium, or high limits, and they sometimes have the option to modify the table format.

3-D Roulette

I've mentioned this in numerous software assessments, but I'm still puzzled by the abundance of different roulette variations in online casinos. What if I suggest a bold idea — why not innovate and develop entirely new games instead of recycling existing ones?

Having expressed my thoughts on that matter, let’s look at the various roulette options provided by Dragonfish:

  • American Roulette — Features a double-zero wheel, resulting in a house advantage of 5.26%.
  • European Roulette — Utilizes a single-zero wheel with a house edge of 2.70%.
  • European Roulette Pro — Also based on a single-zero wheel; the house edge remains at 2.70%.
  • 3-D Roulette — Another single-zero wheel offering a 2.70% house edge.
  • Rockin' Roulette — Employs a unique setup with 37 balls numbered from 0 to 37. This style was previously available at Harrah's Rincon in California, a location where traditional roulette is prohibited. Mathematically, it functions like single-zero roulette, maintaining a house edge of 2.70%.
  • Deal or No Deal Roulette — This version features a single-zero wheel and includes a side bet inspired by the popular television show. The house edge is 2.70% for the roulette game, while the edge for the side bet remains unknown. For further details, you can check the relevant page on my website. Deal or No Deal Roulette .
  • Pinball Roulette — This game includes a single-zero wheel and features a pinball-themed side bet. My knowledge of this game is limited to casino help files, and it does not appear on the main game menu, so details are scarce.
  • French Roulette — This variation also uses a single-zero wheel. Interestingly, players only lose half of their even money bets when the ball lands on zero. The house edge is 1.35% on even money bets and 2.70% on all other bets.

For the most favorable odds, opt for French roulette and make even money bets exclusively.

Baccarat

Misleading tie odds.

Baccarat This version adheres to standard odds and employs six decks of cards. It's worth noting that the table cloth inaccurately claims that the tie pays 9 to 1 and the pair bets pay 12 to 1. After observing both bets until they resulted in a win, I realized that they pay 9 for 1 for the tie and 12 for 1 for the pairs.

In simpler terms, \"to one\" indicates that winnings don’t include the initial wager, which is also returned to the player upon winning. Conversely, \"for one\" means that the win encompasses the return of the player's original wager. Thus, for instance, a payout of 9 for 1 equals 8 to 1.

Considering the real odds of 8 to 1 on ties and 11 to 1 on pairs, the house edge stands at 14.44% for ties and 11.25% for pairs.

You might be wondering: if the game truly offered the odds stated on the felt, the house edge would be 4.93% on ties and 3.86% on pairs.

Craps

craps.jpg
Craps

The craps gameplay presents unusual betting limits—6x for the 4 and 10, 4.5x for the 5 and 9, and 3.6x for the 6 and 8—after establishing a pass or come bet, which I've never encountered before. The cumulative house edge linked to the pass and odds at these limits is 0.35%.

The don't pass and don't come wagers follow the same unconventional limits when laying odds as taking them post a pass or come bet. These limits are dependent on the bet amount rather than the winning amount. The balanced house edge for these bets stands at 0.34%.

Place and don't place bets follow the standard odds. For American readers, in the UK and Australia, they feature 'don't place' bets, which serve as the opposite of place bets, paying 4-5 on the 6 and 8, 5-8 on the 5 and 9, and 5-11 on the 4 and 10.

Typically, a commission on buy bets is deducted from the bet amount. However, Dragonfish applies it to the winning amount, which is less favorable for players. That said, they do only charge the commission after a win. This scenario means that the effective odds on buy bets stand at 1.9 to 1 for the 4 and 10, 1.425 to 1 for the 5 and 9, and 1.14 to 1 for the 6 and 8. The house advantage here is 3.33% for the 4 and 10, 3.00% for the 5 and 9, and 2.73% for the 6 and 8.

The 5% commission on lay bets is correctly calculated against the winning amount and is payable solely after a win. This sets the effective odds for buy bets at 19 to 40 for the 4 and 10, 19 to 30 for the 5 and 9, and 19 to 24 for the 6 and 8. The house edge here is 1.67% for the 4 and 10, 2.00% for the 5 and 9, and 2.27% for the 6 and 8.

Below is a table summarizing the house edge associated with all betting methods on or against the numbers mentioned above.

Dragonfish Craps Comparison

Point Place Buy Lay Place
to Lose
4 or 10 6.67% 3.33% 3.03% 1.67%
5 or 9 4.00% 3.00% 2.50% 2.00%
6 or 8 1.52% 2.73% 1.82% 2.27%

In conclusion, if you prefer to bet on or against a specific point number, the buy and lay bets yield a lower house edge on the 4, 5, 9, and 10. Conversely, the place and don't place bets prove to be more advantageous on the 6 and 8.

The odds on proposition bets follow standard practices. After facing some misleading information on the baccarat felt, I verified that the payouts for craps are indeed correct.

Pai Gow Poker

Pai gow poker

Very standard pai gow poker the rules include a 5% commission without player banking. The player cards are neatly sorted, making fouling your hand impossible. Assuming a standard house strategy is adopted, the house edge is set at 2.72%.

Three Card Poker

DragonFish calls their Three Card Poker In the game of Triple Card Poker, the Ante bet follows the familiar 1-4-5 Ante Bonus payout structure, resulting in a house edge of 3.37%. Meanwhile, the Pairplus bet features a paytable of 1-4-5-30-40, leading to a house edge of 5.57%.

For those longing for the classic feel of 1980s video poker, Dragonfish has got you covered. Many of their machines replicate the retro designs from the 80s, complete with low-resolution blue screens on small cathode ray monitors.

Regrettably, the pay tables tend to vary from mediocre to outright poor, as the return table will illustrate.

The 'Deal or No Deal' Tens or Better game offers a twist — it’s a standard video poker experience with a double feature after any win that features an image of a phone.

Lastly, let’s discuss the progressive Royal Diamonds game. This game follows an 8-6 Jacks or Better paytable, offering a jackpot for a royal flush comprised entirely of diamonds. Following the 8/6 Jacks strategy, the expected return is 96.80%, plus an additional 0.622% for every 1,000 coins in the progressive. The break-even jackpot stands at 25,704 coins.

The table below displays the Video Poker games available, organized in alphabetical order.

Dragonfish regularly releases a variety of software products tailored for the online betting landscape, and its suite of casino games plays a significant role in its everyday operations. While the slots may appear somewhat outdated, the overall quality of their table games and video poker options is commendable, despite the inaccuracies on the Baccarat tables.

You can find mathematically sound strategies and guidelines for various casino games, such as blackjack, craps, roulette, and hundreds more that are available for play.

Rules common to all games are:

  • Blackjack pays 3 to 2.
  • Dealer stands on soft 17.
  • No surrender.
  • The selection of table games offered is somewhat typical. The only notable distinction is a game unfamiliar to me called Texas Choose 'Em. Generally, players have the option to select tables with low, medium, or high limits, and there are instances where they can alter the style of the table they are playing at.

I often find myself pondering the necessity of having so many variations of roulette in online casinos. Perhaps it's time for a bold suggestion — could we replace some of these repetitious games with entirely new concepts?

Having expressed my feelings on the matter, let’s delve into the numerous roulette variations that Dragonfish provides:Expand
