- In a significant trade, the Philadelphia Phillies exchanged Larry Bowa and Ryne Sandberg with the Chicago Cubs for Ivan DeJesus.

- The Dallas Cowboys marked a historic achievement by becoming the first NFL team to claim three Super Bowl titles within four years, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers with a score of 27 to 17 in Super Bowl XXX at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. This victory represented the Cowboys' fifth Super Bowl championship, and Defensive Back Larry Brown was honored as the Most Valuable Player of the game.
