New York Yankees Designate Corey Kluber and Luke Voit to the Injured List
Introduction
On May 26, 2021, the New York Yankees revealed that their experienced right-handed starter, Corey Kluber, would be put on the day-to-day injured list as he deals with discomfort in his right shoulder. Additionally, the team had to place their starting first baseman, Luke Voit, on the 10-day injured list due to a right oblique strain on the same day.
The Corey Kluber Injury
After a detailed assessment from the Yankees' medical team, it was determined that Corey is suffering from a subscapularis strain. Kluber is anticipated to be sidelined for around two months to allow his throwing arm's right shoulder to recuperate fully before he returns to the mound for the Bronx Bombers.
Corey, who is 25 years old, had recently celebrated a remarkable achievement, throwing 101 pitches no – hitter against the Texas Rangers on May 19, 2019, marking his first-ever no-hitter in Major League Baseball. This was a significant personal milestone following a series of health challenges that have kept the previous ace off the field. His 2019 season with the Cleveland Indians ended abruptly when he sustained an injury from a line drive hitting his forearm in May of that year.
In his debut for the Texas Rangers in 2020, Corey faced another setback, lasting only one inning before tearing a muscle in his right shoulder in July, which again put him on the injured list. Now, Kluber will be missing an extended period with the struggling New York Yankees Major League Baseball team because of his right shoulder injury. Deivi Garcia and Michael King are top contenders to take over Kluber's spot in the starting rotation.
The Luke Voit Injury
Voit's injury diagnosis came as quite a surprise to the New York Yankees organization. Manager Aaron Boone mentioned that their powerful first baseman began experiencing slight discomfort in his side on May 22, 2021, which intensified by Tuesday, leading to an MRI that confirmed a Grade 2 strain in his right oblique. pain in his side Luke had previously led Major League Baseball in home runs during the shortened 2020 MLB season, hitting a total of 22 home runs. At this point in the current year, he has a batting average of .182 with just one home run across 12 games, having missed the early part of the 2021 MLB season due to surgery on a torn meniscus in his left knee.
This knee injury had occurred during spring training last year. Potential replacements for Voit at first base include D. J. LeMahieu and Mike Ford, while Miguel Andujar may also get some playing time in that position as Voit recovers.
"He didn’t appear to be at his best,\" commented Yankees' manager Aaron Boone during a media brief after the game on May 25, 2021. "He had a few pitches that weren't executed as intended. We'll need to compensate for his absence, naturally.\" Addressing Luke Voit's injury, Boone added, "It's frustrating for him to face a setback that requires him to be on the injured list. However, we're hopeful he won't be out for too long .\" New York Current New York Yankees Injured List Details (as of May 26, 2021)
