Cincinnati Reds infielder Mike Moustakas is now on the 10-day injured list due to a heel injury.
Introduction
On May 20, 2021, Mike Moustakas, the experienced infielder for the Cincinnati Reds, was carefully added to the 10-day injured list following a right heel contusion sustained during a recent game. To fill the gap during his recovery, the Reds have brought up Max Schrock from their Triple-A team to temporarily take his place.
This season, the 32-year-old Moustakas, currently a part of the Cincinnati Reds , has recorded a batting average of .241 along with 4 home runs and 13 RBIs so far in the early days of the 2021 Major League Baseball season. With him now on the injured list, the hope is that he can take the time needed to heal before making his return to the Reds' active roster in the foreseeable future.
It appears that Moustakas’ heel injury has deteriorated as he attempted to play through the pain. Sources close to the team have indicated that a recent reevaluation showed that the damage to his right heel contusion was worse than initially diagnosed. This recent deterioration seems to have prompted the decision to place him on the 10-day injured list, ensuring he returns at full strength before rejoining the Cincinnati lineup. Cincinnati "I was caught off guard,\" said David Bell, the Reds’ manager, to reporters following the game. " I had been optimistic based on Moustakas’ updates. He was incredibly eager to play again and was doing everything in his power to get back in the lineup, even volunteering to pinch-hit from the very beginning. Reds "Every time I spoke to him, he assured me he was on the mend. I was genuinely concerned that pushing him into games might exacerbate the injury. I kept inquiring, and he said everything was fine. Finally, another examination revealed more damage than we previously thought.\"
