Those who are part of my Wizard of Vegas community are aware that I've been discussing the solar eclipse that took place on August 21, 2017, since long before, starting from my first mention on July 22, 2009, the time when I experienced a total eclipse while in China. Total Eclipse 2009 Since that notable experience, I've been eagerly counting down to the last time the United States witnessed a total eclipse from coast to coast, which was in 1918.

Initially, my intention was to travel from Las Vegas to eastern Idaho to experience the eclipse, specifically near Rexburg. However, about six months ahead of this significant event, I realized I needed a solid plan and started making preparations, which included trying to secure a hotel. Unfortunately, by that stage, every accommodation in eastern Idaho was fully booked.
Take this as a valuable lesson: for the upcoming 2024 eclipse or any future eclipses, make your reservations as early as possible. I considered staying at the Waco Hilton, an excellent location for witnessing the 2024 eclipse, but their website indicates they only accept bookings a year in advance. That's a common rule in many hotels, so mark your calendars for August 8, 2023, and be ready to book a place along the path of the eclipse.
After my initial plans to watch the eclipse from Rexburg fell through, I explored hotel options in Boise, located approximately 60 miles from the total eclipse path. Luckily, I found several establishments still available at reasonable rates.
