Colorado River Kayak Adventure

I'm thrilled to share that I have just finished an incredible three-day kayaking adventure spanning 51 miles, starting at Willow Beach and concluding at Katherine's Landing. For reference, Willow Beach is situated roughly 12 miles downstream from the Hoover Dam, while Katherine's Landing is a marina located just north of Bullhead City, Arizona. The accompanying map illustrates our starting point, destination, and the locations where we set up camp each night.

Colorado River Kayaking Expedition - The Fearless Four

Here are the fearless quartet ready to set off on January 15. The blue kayak belongs to me, although during the trip, I used the orange one to the left.

First rest stop - selfie

Here's a selfie from our initial break. We encountered numerous breathtaking canyons along our route.

Nelson’s Landing

In this image, taken at Nelson's Landing, you can see three of us preparing to jump into the water from a ledge. The fourth person is below in a kayak, capturing the moment on video. It’s worth mentioning that we had the entire area to ourselves.

Campsite - Located a few miles south of Nelson's Landing

This was the campsite we enjoyed on our first night, situated a few miles to the south of Nelson's Landing.

The Cottonwood Cove marina

This image shows the Cottonwood Cove marina, which we passed on our second day. It was here that we replenished our supply of wine and snacks.

Mile makers

These mile markers were essential for tracking our journey. We commenced at mile 53 and concluded at mile 2.

Our campsite the second night

Our campsite for the second night offered us an expansive stretch of sandy beaches, making us feel like we had all of Lake Mohave to ourselves.

Rest stop on the final day

This photograph captures a rest stop during our final day. The wind was quite strong, and if you look closely, you can spot whitecaps forming on the water.

The windsock

Pay attention to the windsock attached to one of our kayaks, illustrating the strength of the winds, as well as the whitecaps. The highest sustained windspeed reached 38 mph on the second day and 28 mph on the third, although they felt equally intense. Thankfully, the wind was pushing us from behind, resulting in a thrilling—yet somewhat perilous—paddling experience. On the last day, one of our group capsized, but fortunately, she managed to reach the shore, empty the kayak, and continue the adventure.

If you're interested in further insights, I created a video documenting the entire experience, including the cliff diving. here .

I also want to express my gratitude to the team who assisted us with three kayak rentals and provided transportation to both our starting point and our finish line.
