Arches National Park

Logic Puzzle

The puzzle ahead challenges you to identify the flaw in the argument that claims 1 equals 2:

Let a=b

a²= ab

a²- b²= ab - b²

(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)

a+b = b

a+a = a

2a = a

2 = 1

Arches National Park

Although Arches National Park has been right in my vicinity for twenty-four years, this was my very first exploration of it. I stayed for two nights at a lovely AirBnB in Moab from March 31 to April 2, 2025.

Starting April 1, the park instituted a reservation system to gain entry. My initial visit took place on the last day of March, so I didn’t need a reservation. The wait at the entrance was approximately 20 minutes. My plan for that day was to cover as much ground as possible along The Windows Road and Delicate Arch Road, which diverge from the main park road. The first site of interest, prominently marked on the park map, was Balanced Rock, easily visible from a parking area off the main route. There’s also a brief hiking trail that circles around it.

Following that, my primary aim for the trip was to reach Delicate Arch, affectionately known as the 'license plate Arch,' as it graces most license plates in Utah. As you might guess, I’m quite passionate about collecting license plates. I often felt compelled to visit every time I spotted one of them during my trips to Las Vegas.

The trek to the arch spans roughly two miles each way and features a moderate incline on the ascent. Many other visitors, like myself, seem to have prioritized this destination as well. At the arch, a queue formed for photos directly beneath it. While it's quite popular among tourists, if you’re limited to a single day in Arches National Park, I strongly recommend making the trip.

After visiting Delicate Arch, I took a scenic one-mile loop trail that passed by both North Window Arch and Turret Arch.

My full day in Moab started with a trip to the Birthing Rock petroglyphs. This site is conveniently located just off Kane Spgs Road with plenty of available parking. After that, I returned to the national park, where I had a reservation to enter between 10 and 11 AM. It’s important to note that reservations must be obtained through the official website. I estimated my wait time this round was around 15 minutes. recreation.gov The highlight of my day was to tackle the eight-mile hiking trail in the Devils Garden area of Arches National Park, which commences at the end of the paved road. The drive from the visitor center to the parking lot takes about half an hour. The key attraction in this part of the park is the Landscape Arch, which at 290 feet is recognized as the longest natural arch in North America and the fifth largest globally, trailing just four arches in China.

I had planned to reach the Dark Angel rock formation, but due to unexpected snowfall, I opted to turn back a bit earlier than intended.

On my final day, I embarked on a four-mile round trip hike outside the park to see Corona Arch. A wonderful recommendation from my AirBnB host, it turned out to be a great suggestion. The path leads right past Bowtie Arch, and the photos really capture the beauty.

I would also like to express my appreciation for the town of Moab itself. While it is undoubtedly a tourist hotspot, it still possesses a welcoming charm. You're unlikely to encounter many chain stores in the town center—if any at all. I especially recommend the Jailhouse Café for breakfast and the Desert Bistro for dinner, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed.

The Moab Information Center offers a nice, complimentary booklet detailing a variety of hikes and activities available in the Moab area beyond just Arches National Park. One could easily fill three full days exploring Moab without running out of things to do. I wish I had more time to explore and am looking forward to returning to discover even more outside the park. In summary, my experience in Arches and Moab was fantastic, and I can't wait to come back.

Since a equals b, it follows that a minus b equals zero. However, dividing by zero is not permissible in mathematics. If you must proceed, we arrive at 2 times infinity equals infinity, which is indeed correct.
