Suit Yourself
Introduction
Suit Yourself is a video poker variant developed by U1. In this game, players select a suit, and if they achieve a flush in that suit, they advance to a bonus round where aces act as wild cards with no changes to the payout table. This feature is primarily compensated for by a tighter payout structure, where the minimum winning hand is a pair of aces.
Rules
The game adheres to the standard video poker regulations, which I assume the reader is already familiar with, except for the specifics noted below.
- Players are required to select a suit, termed as \"Your Suit.\" This designation will remain until the player opts to change it.
- If a player draws a flush in their selected \"Your Suit,\" they will enter the bonus game. It is my understanding that straight flushes and royal flushes may also qualify as a \"flush\" in this context for triggering the bonus, although I am not entirely certain. According to the rules, \"any flush\" activates the bonus feature.
- The initial phase of the bonus round includes a field of 12 cards, comprising all face cards.
- Players will select one card at a time, without putting any back, until they uncover all three face cards matching their chosen suit. The total number of free games awarded will depend on how many selections were needed, as detailed in the accompanying table.
Bonus Round Free Games
Picks Free Games 3 25 4 20 5 15 6 12 7 10 8 9 9 8 10 7 11 6 12 5 - During free games, aces are considered wild, but the pay table remains unchanged.
- There is a possibility to retrigger additional free games during the free game rounds, likely without limit.
- The free games are played at the same betting level as the original bet made.
- Each day of the week features two designated ranks known as the \"Cards of the Day.\" If a player manages to get four of a kind in either of these ranks, presumably during the draw, they will receive a \"Bonus Spin.\" The ranks for each day are outlined in the accompanying table.
Cards of the Day Bonus
Picks Cards of the Day Monday 5 & 6 Tuesday 5 & 7 Wednesday 5 & 8 Thursday 6 & 7 Friday 6 & 8 Saturday 7 & 9 Sunday 8 & 9 - The Bonus Spin wheel consists of the following segments: 50, 7, 25, 10, 30, 8, 12, 9, 100, 7, 20, 10, 35, 7, 15, 9. The wins are calculated based on the amount wagered during the initiating bet. I am unsure if the wheel is weighted.
- There's an additional Mystery Bonus Spin feature that can activate at any point in the game. I believe this feature is triggered randomly, independent of the main gameplay.
- For bets of $4 or more, the Mystery Bonus Spin wheel includes the following segments: 500, 25, 50, 40, 200, 25, 40, 1195, 50, 40, 300, 25, 100, 40. The winnings here are relative to the amount bet on the initiating spin. Again, it’s unclear whether this wheel is weighted.
- For bets of under $4, the Mystery Bonus Spin wheel has these segments: 100, 5, 10, 8, 50, 5, 10, 8, 250, 3, 10, 8, 75, 5, 20, 8. The winnings are calculated relative to the initiating bet amount, and I do not have information on whether this wheel is weighted.
- At the Rampart casino, players can wager between $0.05 and $25. The game doesn't utilize coins; the chosen bet is the total wager for each hand.

Return Table
The return varies depending on the wager amount and if the player uses the \"you hold\" or \"auto hold\" options. For wagers of $10 or less, the return increases as the bet amount rises due to slight adjustments in the pay table. The next table illustrates the returns for both methods according to the wager.

The returns mentioned above were graciously provided in the help sections. They were gathered from a machine located at the Rampart casino in Las Vegas. U1 has informed me that the returns are consistent across all their machines for given bet levels. They also noted that casinos may choose between low-volatility and high-volatility settings through different pay table configurations, with most opting for low-volatility.
As an example of a pay table, here’s the one for You Hold mode with a $0.25 bet at the Rampart casino.
Rampart Pay Table — $0.25 bet — You Hold
Event | Win in Dollars | Win in Credits |
---|---|---|
Royal flush | $200.00 | 800 |
Straight flush | $25.00 | 100 |
Four of a kind | $8.00 | 32 |
Full house | $2.00 | 8 |
Flush | $1.25 | 5 |
Straight | $1.00 | 4 |
Three of a kind | $0.50 | 2 |
Two pair | $0.25 | 1 |
Aces | $0.25 | 1 |
Strategy
For a majority of players, about 99.54%, I would advocate for using Auto Hold mode. I spent around 15 minutes playing in this mode, and the held cards were quite unintuitive. There is a strong motivation to aim for flushes in \"Your Suit.\" The remaining 0.46% of players should ideally be those who have thoroughly analyzed proper strategies for this game, but to my knowledge, no effective strategies for Suit Yourself currently exist. Do not expect me to develop one anytime soon.
Analysis
U1 has kindly shared the game's return information, and their strategy appears to be so atypical that I will refrain from further analysis for now. Nevertheless, I was intrigued by the free game bonus. The table below shows the likelihood of various quantities of picks and free games. The bottom row indicates that players can generally expect to draw 9.75 cards and receive about 7.522727 free games.
