Deuces Wild Appendix 3
Introduction
In Deuces Wild video poker, when faced with the decision to keep either (1) suited 10 and king along with a straight penalty card, or (2) no cards at all, typically, it’s best to discard all. For instance, consider this specific hand:
In scenarios like this, the usual recommendation is to discard everything, as the 9 diminishes the chances of completing a straight. Yet, this case is an exception; it’s advisable to retain the two cards leading to a royal flush, king high, even with the 9 acting as a straight penalty. Below are examples of such exceptions. They are initially organized by the straight penalty card (either 9 or ace) and the suitability of the remaining three cards. Next, the exceptions are categorized based on how the suited card relates to the king. Finally, combinations of two cards where keeping the two suited high cards is beneficial are noted.
