Straights and 8\"s

Introduction

The Straights and 8's side bet in roulette, which I discovered during the Global Gaming Expo in 2017, is currently available in two Colorado locations: the Saratoga Casino in Blackhawk and the Brass Ass in Cripple Creek. As of now (October 7, 2017), this betting option rewards sequences of two or three numbers that are consecutive or closely related, especially involving the digit 8. Aces Up Gaming The conditions for winning with Straights and 8's are outlined as follows:

Rules

Winning sequence of 8-18-28: The last three drawn numbers include an 8, 18, and 28 arranged in any order. For instance, the sequence could be 18, 28, 8.

  • Three consecutive numbers: The last three numbers must be in consecutive order, regardless of their arrangement. An example would be 22, 23, 24.
  • Numbers that all end with the digit 8: The last three numbers must all finish on 8, with at least one repetition involved. For example, a sequence like 28, 8, 28 would qualify.
  • Two sequential numbers: Among the last three numbers, the first two must be consecutive. A sample could be 18, 17, 5 or 29, 30, 00.
  • First two numbers ending with 8: The initial two of the last three drawn numbers must finish on an 8. Repeats are permissible. A sample sequence could be 8, 28, 15 or 28, 28, 0.
  • First two numbers with one intervening number: The first two of the last three numbers should each be separated by precisely one other number. For example, sequences like 18, 16, 5 or 28, 30, 00 would fit this criterion.
  • Note that the 0 and 00 do not represent valid numbers for this bet. If either of these appears among the first two numbers, the Straights and 8's bet loses its validity. The only way a zero can factor into a winning combination is if the first two spins result in a win and the third spin does nothing to aid that.

After three spins, or following any spin that does not yield a possible winning combination (whichever occurs first), the dealer will evaluate all placed bets and call for new bets on Straights and 8's. They will utilize a designated area on the table that features laminated markers to keep track of the bets made by each player and provide a record of spins that occurred since the last round of betting.

The following payout tables are available for single-zero roulette wheels.

The subsequent four tables present my analysis of the previously mentioned payout tables. You'll find the ratio of expected player wins in comparison to the total amount wagered displayed in the lower right corner. To determine the house edge, simply eliminate the negative sign.
