Rock Paper Scissors

Introduction

The classic game of Rock Paper Scissors is available at online casinos powered by various software, including Evoplay. Playtech The image displayed above is sourced from the Playtech version of this game.

Playtech Rules

In this game, players can select rock, paper, or scissors, and the computer opponent makes its choice as well. The outcomes are determined as follows: rock crushes scissors, scissors cut paper, and paper envelops rock. If both players choose the same item, it results in a draw for single throw bets. Additionally, players can place bets on series of 2, 3, or even 4 throws, where a complete win is necessary (ties result in loss) to claim victory in the bet.

Winning a single throw bet yields a payout of 1.9. The anticipated return is calculated as (1/3)*1.9 + (1/3)*1 = 2.9/3 = approximately 96.67%.

For a series consisting of two throws, the payout is set at 8.7, with winning odds at (1/3).2= 1/9. The expected return is (1/9)*8.7 = 96.67%.

In the case of a three throw series, the payout stands at 26, with winning odds also at (1/3).3= 1/27. The expected return is (1/27)*26 = 96.30%.

When it comes to a four throw series, the payout is 78, maintaining the same winning odds of (1/3).4= 1/81. The expected return is (1/81)*78 = 96.30%.

In the Playtech variant, the odds remain constant across all three throws.

Evoplay Rules

Rock paper scissors evoplay

Evoplay Entertainment's version, known as Rock Paper Scissors -- Viking Version, operates on a one-game-at-a-time basis. Wins here offer a payout of 1.92 for each win, and the expected return, according to the table provided, is 97.33% when ties are counted as resolved bets. However, since Rock Paper Scissors typically doesn’t end in ties, excluding them results in a drop to a 96% return.

Gameplay also presents an alternative version called Lucky and Fortune, where a spinning arrow on a wheel determines the payout for a win. In this variant, ties yield a payout of 0.8 of the bet amount. The subsequent table illustrates the number of segments for each type of win possible on the wheel along with my personal results from 105 spins.

If every spin landed randomly, the average win would be projected at 4.67. However, based on my results, it appears to be closer to 1.92. Consequently, the return table shows that assuming an average win of 1.92 results in an expected return of 90.79%.

BetGames.tv Rules

Following are the rules as played at BetGames.tv .

  1. The dealer utilizes a single deck made up of 24 cards, including eight each of rocks, paper, and scissors.
  2. There are two distinct betting positions available: Silver and Gold.
  3. Once the bets are placed, the dealer will deal one card to each of the betting positions.
  4. Players can choose on which symbol they would like to bet against each respective dealer position.
  5. For the Silver position, a win results in a payout of 1.9 for every 1 bet, while a tie results in a payout of 1 for 1 (considered a push).
  6. In the Gold position, winnings are higher at 2.5 for each 1 bet won, whereas a tie yields only 0.4 for every dollar wagered — representing a 60% loss on the original bet.
  7. Players are restricted to betting on only a single symbol for each hand.

Following is an example.

In the example shown, I placed a bet of 0.1 mBTC (where a mBTC equals 1/1000th of a Bitcoin) on paper for the Silver hand and scissors for the Gold hand. The dealer revealed rock for Silver and paper for Gold, resulting in wins for both hands. For the Silver hand, winning means getting back 1.9 times the bet, while the Gold hand pays 2.5 times. My total winnings amounted to 4.4 betting units, translating to a return of 0.44 mBTC when betting 0.1 mBTC, of which 0.2 mBTC was my original stake, and the remaining 0.24 mBTC was profit.

The subsequent table illustrates my assessment of the bet placed on the Silver Hand, showing an expected return of 96.67% in the bottom right cell.

Real Life Strategy

When facing an inexperienced human opponent, particularly if they're male, the best strategy for the opening throw is to choose paper. This is due to the common tendency for individuals to select rock, especially during their first attempt.
