Introduction
This is the house way used at the Barona The Barona casino is situated close to San Diego and, similar to many casinos in California, recognizes the joker as a fully wild card in pai gow poker.
- In the case of Pai Gow with no pairs or higher hands, place the second and third highest cards in the front.
- For a single pair, keep the pair at the back while placing the two highest remaining cards in the front.
- When you have a Wild One Pair, you can set the first and third highest cards in front.
- Two Pair:
- A high pair consisting of Aces, Kings, or Queens should always be played as a pair.
- If your high pair includes Jacks, 10s, or 9s, treat it as a pair unless you have an Ace.
- For high pairs of 8s, 7s, or 6s, play them as a pair unless you possess a King or an Ace.
- In the case of high pairs of 5s, 4s, or 3s, you will play as a pair unless you hold a Queen or a higher card.
- With two pairs that include a joker, treat the hand as a pair plus trips, unless the highest card is valued at 3 points.
- One Pair plus joker, plays as Pair – Pair
- When holding three pairs, the highest pair should always be placed in the front.
- For three of a kind, split Aces into two and one; split Kings and lower cards is not permitted.
- When dealing with two sets of three of a kind, place the pair from the highest set at the front.
- If you have three of a kind and a joker, play it as a pair in front with trips in the back.
- In cases of having a Straight, Flush, or Straight Flush, always place the best hand in front along with the straight or flush.
- For a Straight, Flush, or Straight Flush that includes one pair, follow the same strategy as mentioned above.
- When you have a Straight, Flush, or Straight Flush with two pairs, adopt the approach for two pairs.
- Full House: Pair in front, trips in back.
- For a Full House or Quads with an additional pair, the pair should be placed upfront, while the full house (or quads) goes in the back.
- A Full House that includes a joker should feature the highest pair in front, allowing for a full house or quads to remain in the back.
- Four of a kind:
- A’s, K’s, Q’s Always split
- J’s, 10’s, 9’s Split unless KING or higher
- 8’s, 7’s, 6’s Split unless QUEEN or better
- 5’s and below Never split
