Deal or No Deal Blackjack

Introduction

Deal or No Deal Blackjack is a unique version of the game developed by Red Tiger Gaming where players have the option to surrender their hand based on the initial two cards. However, the value of the surrender offer, termed the 'Banker Offer,' varies widely depending on both the player's cards and the dealer's visible card.

Rules

The following rules apply to the blackjack game before you engage with the Banker Offer feature. It is presumed that readers possess a fundamental understanding of standard blackjack regulations.

  1. Five decks are used.
  2. Dealer stands on soft 17.
  3. Blackjack pays 3 to 2.
  4. The dealer checks for blackjack when both a ten and an ace are visible before the player starts their turn.
  5. Double after split allowed.
  6. Players are allowed to re-split any pairs up to three times, except in the case of aces, which can only be split once.
  7. No draw to split aces.

Additionally, the game provides the player with the option to surrender anytime they hold their initial two cards and view the dealer's up card. This offer is presented prior to the dealer’s blackjack peek.

Strategy

Here is the recommended basic strategy based on the above rules. If doubling down is permitted with three or more cards, you should hit, unless you have a soft 18, in which case you should stand.

Always decline the Banker Offers when they are presented.

Analysis

According to my blackjack house edge calculator Under the rules we've discussed, the house edge stands at 0.38%.

To evaluate the Banker Offers, I documented 31 £10 hands, tracking the offers made and the real hand values using my methods. The table below displays both values along with the ratio of the Banker Offer against the actual hand value. blackjack hand calculator The data indicates that the Banker Offer consistently falls short of the actual value of the hand. The ratio of the Banker Offer to the actual hand value ranged from 93.01% to 98.36%, with an average of 95.88%. Therefore, the average house edge for the Banker Offers is 4.12%. Considering that the base game's house edge is 0.38%, I suggest declining the Banker Offers each time.
