Four 20\"s

Introduction

Four 20\

Four 20s is not just a numeric code related to marijuana possession; it is also a blackjack variant from DraftKings known as Four 20s Blackjack. While I refer to it as a side bet labeled Four 20s, it essentially functions like traditional four-hand blackjack with an added requirement for a side bet. The side bet awards payouts based on the number of 20s a player achieves in their initial four hands.

Rules

  1. Players are required to place identical bets across five points: on each of the four blackjack hands and on the Four 20s side bet.
  2. The blackjack rules are as follows:
    • Eight decks
    • Dealer stands on soft 17
    • Blackjack pays 3 to 2
    • Dealer peeks for blackjack
    • Player may double on any two cards
    • Player may double after a split
    • The player has the option to re-split any pair, excluding aces, for up to four hands.
    • Split aces get one card only per hand
    • Surrender is not allowed
  3. The payout for the Four 20s side bet is determined by the number of 20-point hands achieved in the player’s first two cards per hand, counting both hard and soft 20s (for example, ace/9). The payout structure is organized as follows:
    • Four 20\"s pays 420 to 1
    • Three 20\"s pays 20 to 1
    • Two 20\"s pays 4 to 1
    • One 20 pays a random win from a push to 3 to 1
  4. The evaluation of the side bet occurs prior to the dealer checking for blackjack.
  5. Upon receiving one 20, a spinning wheel will determine the prize. Below are the different outcomes and their associated probabilities from the prize wheel.
    • 3x: 5%
    • 2x: 15%
    • 1x: 50%
    • Push (wheel stops on line): 30%

Analysis

The subsequent table illustrates the outcomes of the win wheel when achieving one 20. The average payout for one 20 is 95.00% of the amount wagered, shown in the bottom right cell.

One 20 Wheel

Win Weight Probability Return
3 1 0.05 0.15
2 3 0.15 0.30
1 10 0.50 0.50
0 6 0.30 0.00
Total 20 1.00 0.95

The next table outlines the combinations, their respective probabilities, and the impact on returns for all potential results ranging from 0 to 4 hands totaling 20 points. An average win per one 20 is represented, with a house advantage calculated at 0.42% in the lower right cell.
