Introduction
I first encountered Big Raise Stud Poker at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas on January 9, 2014. Prior to this, the game was featured at the Venetian. It's a straightforward poker game where the outcome depends solely on the player's five-card hand. It's akin to other poker variations, but the unique aspect here is that players have just one opportunity to raise, which they can do up to four times their initial Ante. Rules
- The dealer is responsible for dealing each player three cards along with two community cards, which are placed face down.
- The player makes an Ante bet.
- Players can either decide to fold their hand or make a Raise bet, which can be from one to four times the amount of their Ante bet.
- The player may examine his own cards.
- After the initial dealing, the dealer will flip over the two community cards for everyone to see.
- Both the Ante and Raise bets pay out based on the pay table provided below.

Strategy
Three cards that can form a straight flush with no gaps, with a minimum value of five or lower.
- High card = 10 to ace.
- Medium card = 6 to 9.
- Low card = 2 to 5.
Make a 4x raise with:
- Three of a kind.
- Medium or high pair.
- Three to a royal flush.
- Three cards that can form a straight flush with one gap, with a minimum value of six or lower.
- Three cards that can create a straight flush with two gaps and at least two high-ranking cards.
- Three cards that can establish a straight with one or fewer gaps and two medium-ranking cards.
Make a 1x raise with:
- Three to a flush.
- Low pair.
- All three cards medium or high.
- Two high cards and one low card.
- The table below lists all possible results for the game, and you'll notice that the lower right cell indicates a house edge of 2.58%.

The return table provided shows that this side bet has a house edge of 7.28%.
The Progressive is a $1 side bet linked to the player's final five-card hand. If a player achieves a royal flush, they win a progressive jackpot, and a straight flush earns 10% of that jackpot. Additionally, there are envy bonuses awarded if another player has a straight flush or higher.
