Matching Dragon
Introduction
The Matching Dragon is a side bet in baccarat located at various venues in Macau. I've heard it can be found at the Lisboa, though my source was uncertain.
This bet consists of 13 different side bets, one corresponding to each rank. Winnings are determined by the number of cards of the selected rank that appear in the subsequent hand, irrespective of whether four to six cards are dealt. Below is the payout table, where all winnings operate on a 'to one' basis.
Matching Dragon Pay Table
Matching Cards |
Pay Table 1 | Pay Table 2 |
---|---|---|
6 | 100 | 100 |
5 | 60 | 60 |
4 | 40 | 30 |
3 | 20 | 15 |
2 | 3 | 2 |
1 | 1 | 1 |
0 | Loss | Loss |
Example : Imagine the following hands:
Player: Q22
Banker: KQ2
A wager on a 2 would yield a payout of 20 to 1 if three twos are dealt, while a bet on a queen would reward 3 to 1 for two queens, and a king would pay even money for just one king. The remaining ten bets would result in losses.
The upcoming table illustrates the different combinations possible for each rank based on the total number of cards dealt during an eight-deck game. The subsequent table indicates the winning probabilities associated with each rank across varying total card counts, during an eight-deck game.

It’s easy to understand that this side bet can be systematically counted, especially with the allowance of a scorecard and pen. However, the inherent house advantage is significant, particularly in relation to pay table 2. Unfortunately, you’ll need to navigate that aspect on your own.
