On January 6, 2024, the NBA announced the return of the always-discussed veteran player, Draymond Green , following a suspension that was initially indefinite but ended up being just twelve games. The Golden State Warriors As of now, Green is expected to spend about a week preparing and participating in practices with his team before he makes his return to NBA gameplay.

Breach of Player Conduct Guidelines

On Sunday, January 7, 2024, Green made his way back to the Golden State Warriors' practice facilities after a prolonged absence due to the lengthy suspension imposed by the NBA, as confirmed by reliable NBA insiders.

The NBA had placed an indefinite suspension on Green starting December 13, 2023, which came just a day after he struck Portland Trail Blazers' center, Jusuf Nurkic , during a match. Phoenix Suns .

The League has this to say…

"Green has undertaken necessary steps that reflect his dedication to adhering to the behavioral expectations set for NBA players,\" stated the National Basketball League in a recently issued public statement. "He has participated in counseling sessions and has held multiple meetings with representatives from the NBA, the Warriors, and the National Basketball Players Association, which will continue throughout the current season.\"

The virtual group meetings included Green's agent, Klutch CEO Rich Paul , the general manager of the Golden State Warriors, Mike Dunleavy Jr. , and the team trainer Rick Celebrini , all of whom were part of the conditions described by the NBA that Green had to meet before being reinstated.

The league indicated that Green's return to play would be contingent on his engagement in counseling sessions due to a concerning series of incidents on the court linked to his unacceptable conduct. Before the incident with Nurkic, Green had previously put the Utah Jazz's center in a serious chokehold. The Warriors concurred with the NBA's procedural approach before his return was authorized. Rudy Gobert "The individual who choked Rudy, who wildly swung at Jusuf, and who punched Jordan [Poole] last year — that's the person who needs to enact change,\" explained Steve Kerr , the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, the day after the announcement of Green's suspension. "This issue transcends the court; it's about his life. I truly believe in him, and I have known him for many years — I admire his loyalty.\"

During Green's time away from the team, he had very limited communication with coach Kerr and most of his teammates.

" We needed space, both for him and for us ,\" Kerr commented on January 4, 2024. "We are focused on winning games, and he is working on getting himself ready to come back.\"

Green lost nearly $2 million during his suspension from the NBA, which in turn helped save the Golden State Warriors around $9 million in potential luxury tax fees.

Over the course of Green's twelve-game absence, the Golden State Warriors managed to record a 7-5 overall performance. Their current record stands at 10-10 for the season whenever Green has been unavailable, either due to injury or suspension , and they are 7-8 in the 15 games Green has played this season.
